Quality Engineer
Summary of Position:
Evaluate and establish optimal manufacturing methods and processes for company product lines within the aerospace, defense, industrial and commercial industries. Determine and define requirements and methods for equipment, tooling, and method of quality inspection based on the customer’s requirements to meet capacity, quality and profitability demands.
Job Duties:
- Plan, coordinate, and create quality documentation that meets customer requirements as well as requirements laid out by the quality management system.
- Troubleshoot and provide support and/or recommendations as it relates to production/inspection problems; provide appropriate documentation or supporting information as necessary and/or required.
- Work with suppliers regarding associated process methods to ensure compliance to customer and regulatory requirements.
- Provide insight and feedback as it relates to quality and manufacturing product improvements.
- Work with the management team to determine and implement solutions through continuous improvement methodologies.
- Work with shop floor employees to assess problems and determine appropriate remedy. Provide support and guidance, as needed, to help ensure quality products are created.
- Provide analysis and improvements to increase throughput for quality inspection activities.
- Hands-on use of gauges and other inspection tools
- Other duties as assigned or directed.
Position Requirements:
- Understanding of precision machining and manufacturing processes.
- Working knowledge of GD&T, technical math, and blueprint reading
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and make decisions.
- Ability to multitask without loss of efficiency or accuracy, including the ability to execute cross-departmental projects with distractions and/or interruptions.
- Ability to work as an integral part of a team.
- Ability to interact appropriately with a variety of individuals including customers/clients.
- Prior experience and/or training in quality assurance, ISO/AS/Defense industry standards, specifications, and compliance. Previous experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, PPAP, FMEA, etc. is desired but not required.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and remedy production problems.
- Strong communication skills (oral and written).
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio). Prior experience with MRP systems is desired but not a requirement.
- Prior experience running a CMM (Hexagon, Wenzel, FARO, etc.)
- Prior experience writing CMM programs (PCDMIS, OPEN DMIS, FARO) is desired but not a requirement. Must be familiar with and practice internal safety standards. Must be respectful and display a positive attitude.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands for this position are normal for a manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, reach and talk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and on occasion, up to 50 pounds (based on customer product, as needed).
