Billing Specialist

This position performs a variety of routine to moderately complex clerical and accounting duties to ensure accurate billing for the Rescue. Provides courteous customer service while projecting a professional image to customers, co-workers and other agencies.
- Answers phones and assists the Rescue customers with account concerns. Answers inquiries, responds to and follows-up on complaints and explains policies and procedures.
- Prepares daily deposits. Verifies data is properly balanced.
- Prepares monthly bills for Rescue, billing to include submitting insurance claims to clearinghouse or individual insurance companies electronically or via CMS 1500.
- Reviews accounts for past due amounts and investigates billing irregularities.
- Accepts applications for service, closes accounts, answers account inquires and provides routine changes to accounts; adds fees as necessary.
- Obtains and enters information necessary for insurance claims including patient, insurance ID, diagnosis and treatment codes. Insures claim information is complete and accurate.
- Imports and exports data from external software for billing purposes; reviews report for errors in order to prepare accurate billing.
- Coordinates with the Clerk’s Finance department the processing of lockbox and credit card payments daily and electronic fund transfers (EFT) monthly.
- Copies records and maintains patient files.
- Updates and maintains electronic and/or paper records of all transactions involving customer accounts.
- Negotiates payment arrangements with delinquent customers.
- Maintains confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one (1) to two (2) years of responsible bookkeeping and/or billing experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. May require a valid State Driver’s License.
The range for this position is $15.0546 – $22.9077. The County provides a comprehensive benefits program and participates in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) and has a 3% employee contribution requirement.
