Senior Systems Engineer
NCAR is excited to announce the job opening for a Senior Systems Engineer. WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Senior Systems Engineer provides overall systems engineering expertise in support of the Airborne Phased Array Radar (APAR) development. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Provides engineering team leadership, systems integration & verification, architecture and design of subsystems, and management of system interfaces.
- Understands how to apply systems engineering processes and methods to large scale projects with multiple stakeholders to include senior management.
- Leads the systems integration, testing, evaluation, and verification of hardware, software, support equipment and systems for APAR as required.
- Reviews Earned Value (EV) data with Project Engineer and Project Director to determine product trade-offs.
- Produces and revises documentation in support of the overall APAR development to include variance reports in the portfolio management software tool such as PPM Pro (Project Portfolio Management Professional) as needed.
- Reviews and refines all APAR technical requirements.
- Manages tech/performance requirements for product configuration across projects. Develops engineering and test documentation to include test plans. Collaborates in proposal writing to secure funding for APAR developments.
- Leads and/or provides support through program gates/milestones such as the Final Design Review (FDR), fabrication, testing, and verification of requirements for the APAR system.
- Responsible for managing technical/ performance risks across functional projects.
- Implements/manages configuration control, change requests processes, coordinates with product development & coordinates with product team on non-conformance.
- Ensures engineering best practices are followed throughout implementation.
Education and Years of Experience (REQUIRED)
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and at least nine (9) years of industry experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven knowledge of systems engineering (SE) models and lifecycle processes.
- Technical leadership experience with R&D and/or operational radar systems, and with a diverse team of disciplines.
- Demonstrates analytical, applied mathematics, and problem-solving skills common to systems engineering.
- Proven knowledge in performing systems engineering trade studies.
- Proven skills in the development, management, and traceability of user and system-level requirements.
- Proven skills in defining the interfaces between subsystems and balancing technical risks between systems.
- Proven skills in overseeing verification and validation activities.
- Experience in developing engineering documents required throughout the acquisition lifecycle process.
- Good understanding of Federal Government systems engineering practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and customer service, time management, and teamwork skills.
JOB DETAILS

- Job Type: Remote option available (with a requirement to travel to subcontractors, university partners, and stakeholders’ facilities on occasion)
- Position Type & Term: This is a full-time, 2-year term position.
- Hiring Range: Annual Salary Range: $119,418 - $149,272 (*Final salary and rates are based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity.*)
