SUMMARY:
The Press Operator is the on-line leader of a small production crew responsible for the efficient manufacture of quality wallcovering product. This position consists of performing all duties associated with operating a vinyl base film printer and laminator to include setting up or directing the setup of materials, machine adjustments, operator preventative maintenance and quality control. The position also includes maintaining accurate records and color verification duties to insure matching to standard and special colors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to all safety policies, including compliance with PPE for all employees on the press.
- Insure safe handling and storage of cylinders.
- Maintain safety in the work area and in all physical practices.
- Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping in the work area.
- Adhere to all quality procedures and requirements directed by the quality department.
- Be purposeful and diligent in the minimization of production waste.
- Eliminate (not produce) non-conforming product aka defects.
- Ensure accurate completion of all quality documents and records.
- Report any non-conformance to quality lead, production lead, or supervisor.
- Proficient in troubleshooting, identifying, and adjusting press operation to correct errors and produce acceptable, conforming product.
- Perform an operation check on equipment and report any deficiencies to supervisor.
- Operate all equipment associated with printing, laminating, and ink mixing operations.
- Operate all material handling equipment associated with the operation of the printer.
- Perform operator preventative maintenance, including routine scheduled and non-scheduled press cleaning, to ensure proper operation.
- Change cylinders as necessary to support the quality production needs for a given press.
- Accurately interpret production and quality documents, including SOP’s, production requirements, schedules, job folders, etc.
- Verify all materials for the upcoming job(s) are properly staged prior to end of current job.
- Accurately complete production reports, logs, and material tags
- Assist in color match to master color, including sample books or special samples.
- Assist the color department in maintaining the Master File on all printing colors.
- Successfully trained and able to perform all duties associated with Machine Assist Position
- Successfully trained and able to perform all duties associated with Inspector Position
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year high school preferred.
Must be capable of performing simple mathematical calculations.
Must be able to understand and implement oral and written instructions.
Must be capable of maintaining accurate written records.
Must possess the physical means to perform all duties assigned in a safe and efficient manner.
Must have good eyesight and be capable of detecting differences in colors and textures.
Must have demonstrated an above average mechanical aptitude.
Must have basic computer/ERP skills.
