Construction Observer

Van Note-Harvey Associates, Inc. currently has an opening in its Princeton office for a full-time Construction Observer. The employee is expected to provide on-site construction observation services before, during, and post project construction. Construction may consist of surface and subsurface improvements of all civil infrastructure for private or public sector projects, including roadways, culverts, recreational facilities, water supply and distribution systems, sanitary sewer collection and treatment systems, storm sewer systems, and pavement construction.
Employer is willing to train any applicant that may lack extensive construction experience but possesses a good work ethic, positive attitude and the required minimum abilities and skills.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Serve as the Engineer’s liaison to the Contractor.
- Provide observation of all construction activities on site to verify work and materials are in compliance with engineering plans and specifications.
- Record detailed and accurate field data utilizing tablets for data storage.
- Prepare comprehensive daily job reports documenting observations, measurement of daily quantities and resources, non-compliance notices, and corrective actions.
- Mathematical skills for verifying measurements on plans and in the field.
- Communicate construction activity daily with the department manager, assistant department manager, and project manager, in particular.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and/or co-workers.
Qualifications for this position include:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- College degree/certificate in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or related field a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Proficiency in AutoCad a plus.
- Proficiency in IOS software a plus.
- Motivated, organized, and able to work well independently and with others.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Salary Range
$50k - $65k Annually. Wages commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package included for full-time positions. Relocation assistance will not be provided. Application must include a resume.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
This position requires daily travel to and from project sites and may occasionally require overtime, evening and/or weekend work depending on project needs.
This position requires both field and office work. Applicants must be capable of considerable physical activity in an outdoor setting. In office computer/technology use may require sitting for prolonged periods. Some filing is expected which may require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
