POSITION DETAILS

Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY.  In 2019, LaGuardia served over 30,000 students in pre-college, associate degree, and continuing education programs.  Major areas of study include Health Sciences, STEM, Business and Technology, and Liberal Arts.  Consistent with the diversity of Queens, 56 percent of LaGuardia students are born outside of the United States.  More than half are first-generation college students.  Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest come from Brooklyn and beyond.  Virtually all LaGuardia students are ethnic minorities (88 percent), 58 percent are women, and 31 percent are over the age of 25.  Forty-eight percent of LaGuardia students are Hispanic, making the college a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI).  Sixty-six percent of LaGuardia students receive financial aid.  Slightly less than half attend part-time, often because they need to work to support their families.  LaGuardia ranked fifth among U.S. community colleges in economic mobility – moving low-income students into the middle class and beyond – in a 2017 Stanford University study.  For more information about LaGuardia please visit www.laguardia.edu.

 

Reporting to the Nursing Program Director, the Clinical Placement Coordinator will serve as the liaison between LaGuardia Community College and the clinical facilities to coordinate student placements.

 

The Coordinator's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Monitor contracts, submitting all requisite paperwork to clinical facilities for students participating in clinical rotations. Maintain HIPPA & FERPA requirements;
  • Schedule faculty and students to attend mandatory hospital orientations, HIPAA training, online in-service and computerized training and maintain compliance with hospital requirements (drug screening);
  • Collaborate with nurse educators and /or placement coordinators in hospitals and clinics to develop clinical placements via email, phone and/or in person;
  • Coordinate the numbers of student-placements needed at each semester, level and type of experience needed (e.g., Pediatrics, Obstetrics, etc);
  • Identifies facility requirements at each clinical placement location, such as orientation and Electronic Health Record (EHR) training, and communicate these clinical entry requirements to instructors and student groups in a timely manner. Keep record of facility requirements, updating them as necessary when facilities change their requirements;
  • Confirm placements with nurse educators and /or placement coordinators in health care facilities via timely follow up communications;
  • Communicate confirmed or changed clinical placement agreements with Director, instructors, campus program coordinators and students for all undergraduate placements in the nursing majors (RN & PN);
  • Attend Placement Coordinators meetings at health care facilities throughout the NYC Metro area as they occur;
  • Communicate with all nursing students and faculty on an ongoing basis to ensure that each student’s records are up to date, including sending out notifications when requirements are not met, including immunizations, CPR, liability insurance, health insurance, criminal background checks and any other required information;
  • Ensure that students and faculty health record are uploaded into the Certified Profile System. Send health records and all other required documents of each student to the placement coordinator/nurse educator at clinical placement facility, on a timely basis, as required by the facility/agency;

 

This position is based in Queens, NY.

 

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in a customer service, higher education, or healthcare environment is preferred
  • Experience with software which may include Microsoft excel, Google Sheets, V-Placement, InPlace, etc. is preferred
  • Knowledge of basic hospital/clinic systems and medical terminology is preferred
