Science Tutoring Coordinator - (220000T9)

Science Tutoring Coordinator - (220000T9)

Job Summary
Towson University (TU) is one of the nation’s top 100 public universities. Located north of Baltimore, TU currently enrolls over 22,000 students and is the second-largest university in the prestigious University System of Maryland. Towson University values diversity and fosters a climate that is grounded in respect and inclusion to cultivate the intellectual and personal growth of the entire university community.

Towson University invites applications for a Science Tutoring Coordinator to oversee tutoring services for the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, and Physics Astronomy and Geosciences. This is a 12-month, full-time position.

Responsibilities and Duties
Responsibilities include hiring, training and supervising tutors, coordinating content coverage with departments, and developing a schedule for tutorial services. While this position supports students taking coursework in all three departments, the majority of tutoring hours support chemistry courses, so the candidate should have sufficient chemistry expertise to confidently support introductory through intermediate chemistry content. This position is also responsible for coordinating with the leadership of the Tutoring and Learning Center and for managing the budget for the Science Tutoring Center. May require limited scheduled hours outside of typical business hours, such as supporting evening tutoring one day per week.

Qualifications and Skills
The successful candidate will have:

  • Master’s degree in a scientific discipline. At least one of the candidate’s degrees must be in chemistry, or closely related field, while prior or subsequent degrees may come from other scientific disciplines.
  • Candidates must have at least one year of experience teaching and/or tutoring in a scientific discipline at the collegiate level. Experience obtained as a graduate teaching assistant could contribute to satisfying this requirement.
  • Competitive candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education in the sciences and the ability to oversee student support in coursework across multiple disciplines.

Preferences for highly competitive candidates include:

  • Three or more years of experience teaching and/or tutoring in a scientific discipline at the collegiate level.
  • Experience in more than one of the disciplines supported by this position, potentially demonstrated through academic coursework, teaching or tutoring.

Salary and Benefits
Competitive salary and full University benefits that include 22 days of annual leave, up to 14 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission. If you are motivated, innovative and team-oriented, we would love to hear from you.

For consideration, please submit a cover letter and resume with your online application.

This position will be open for a minimum of 14 days.

The safety of our students, faculty, staff, and neighbors has been our top priority and the focus of every one of our decisions since the earliest days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the University System of Maryland (USM) has strongly encouraged full COVID vaccination and up-to-date booster shots (when eligible) for all faculty, staff, and students at all schools in the USM as both a reasonable and necessary means of protecting our health and safety.
