Facility Maintenance Specialist

Position Summary:

Perform duties to provide preventive and corrective maintenance procedures to the facilities within the RCID campus, working alone, with fellow team members, or assisting contract labor, guided by precedent and working within the limits of established policies.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Call up and perform work orders including mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting or other general maintenance routines. Determine and report the requirements for utilization of contractors for more complex repair activities.
  • Enter work orders to computer system based on communication of problems reported by others or observation.
  • Perform daily inspections of the facilities for safety and compliance issues as well as needed repairs of doors, windows, floors coverings, bathroom fixtures, lighting receptacles and fixtures, shorelines, and water fountains. Make repairs and/or replacements as necessary to maintain the facilities in good repair and appearance. Replace ceiling tiles, flooring and carpet tiles as needed.
  • Perform minor furniture repairs to cushions, table tops, cabinets, drawers, hinges, doors and beds as needed.
  • Provide assistance to RCID staff members and/or contractors to repair mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, decorating and general maintenance and upkeep.
  • Perform daily and periodic duties to support the organization. Sort incoming mail and post outgoing mail; deliver supplies; set up conference room and parking for Board members as meetings scheduled; and assist janitorial staff in trash removal.

Other Duties:

  • Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements.

 

  • Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, and policies.

 

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Competency:

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of hand and power tools, meters, and gauges.
  • General knowledge of computer use.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Two years of college or vocational training to develop reasoning, mathematical, and mechanical skills.
  • Three to five years of experience in building maintenance.
  • Building Maintenance certification preferred.
  • Regular, dependable attendance required.

Driving Requirements:

Must possess a valid Florida State Driver's license and maintain eligibility under the District's commercial vehicle program.

 

Physical Demands:

While engaging in the duties of this position the Employee performs lifting and/or carrying of up to 50 lbs. occasionally and 20 lbs. frequently. Employee sits occasionally. Employee stands and walks frequently on varied surfaces. Employee occasionally bends/stoops/crouches, pushes/pulls, climbs/balances, kneels and crawls. Employee uses their hand(s)/arm(s) to reach in any direction and seize, grasp, hold and turn object using hand(s). Employee uses fingers, versus whole hand, to pick, pinch and feel objects. Employee sees, talk and hear as they communicate with others in person, electronically, by phone or radio. Visual functions include the ability to identify and distinguish colors and requires adjustment of the lens of the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.

 

Employee will operate motor vehicle(s) that involve the use of hand/foot controls.
