Safety Manager (Plant)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

The Safety Manager will be responsible for supporting the company’s Safety Program and creating continuous safety improvements and a safety culture by incorporating “LEAN” management principals. The Safety Manager leads, directs, and manages a team of safety personnel to monitor and ensure a world class safety culture.

  1. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain a working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and maintain relationships with appropriate regulatory agencies
  • Regularly communicates with facility and corporate management concerning Safety regulations.
  • Directs investigative testing and monitoring programs.
  • Review all industrial accident, near-miss incident, and occupational injury investigations to determine if the root cause and corrective actions are sufficient and appropriate to eliminate reoccurrence.
  • Represents the company with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory officials regarding permitting, violations, inspections as required.
  • Assist employees with accident and post accident medical care.
  • Maintains safety files and records.
  • Provides technical guidance to management and provides information to civic organizations, community groups, and governmental agencies regarding, health and safety practices and procedures at the facility.
  • Responsible for implementing and monitoring the occupational health and safety management system (ISO 45001).
  • Manages the emergency response team and contribute to drills and exercises, and responding to an emergency event should one occur
  • Supervises air and biological sampling/monitoring programs.
  • Perform safety audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies;
  • Manages medical, worker's compensation and insurance programs to control costs; serves as liaison between insured and insurance carrier when appropriate.
  • Coordinate training as required for new hires, existing employees, vendors, and contractors as defined by corporate policy.
  • Reviews engineering designs when requested, for compliance with safety codes.
  • Complies with all, health, safety and housekeeping programs.
  • Manages and Mentors Site Safety personnel.
  • Ensure plant compliance with OSHA safety regulation
  • Develops, and implements programs for monitoring, and preventing chemical, physical, and biological hazards as well as company safety improvement programs
  • Build management and employee dedication and enthusiasm for safety through effective Leadership and Influence. Act as a Mentor for colleague safety engagement; BBS Program, Near Miss reporting, JHA completion, etc.
  • Represent the Company in safety and health interests outside of their operations within the community by active participation in professional societies and trade associations
  • Assists with obtaining quality safety equipment and executing required safety permits.
  • Foster a collaborative environment with operations, contractors and other functions to meet common safety objectives
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

  • PRE-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor degree in Science/Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Prefer experience in Industrial Hygiene Monitoring and sampling
  • 5+ years experience in Safety compliance
  • 2+ years managerial experience
  • Working knowledge of federal and state EHS regulations
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent PC skills including MS Office
  • Hands on skills with conducting Health and Safety training
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in on-site auditing and inspections
