Our Chapter of The Nature Conservancy is dedicated to conserving South Carolina’s forests and water resources, from the mountains to the sea. This position will manage one of the Chapter’s single most valuable assets – our portfolio of conservation easements.
We seek a highly motivated, self-starting Conservation Coordinator to join our fast-paced Land Protection Team working to conserve South Carolina. The successful candidate will have direct responsibility for coordinating several important TNC functions related to stewardship of existing conservation interests and new land protection projects. Easement stewardship responsibilities will include management of the easement monitoring program for the entire state, on-the-ground monitoring, and answering landowner inquiries about easement issues. The role requires the ability to navigate conflict with tact and grace.
The land protection work will include reviewing potential projects, gathering information, securing internal approvals, assisting with selected conservation easement acquisitions, developing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) maps, helping coordinate grant related documents, ensuring real estate related due diligence documents are provided to internal team members in a timely and well-coordinated manner, and other tasks as assigned. The position may also provide critical administrative support to the Director of Protection. The work is fast-paced, challenging, and highly rewarding. The position provides a great opportunity to learn the ins and outs of land conservation.
The Conservation Coordinator will travel up to 50% of the time, around the state of South Carolina, with opportunities for training and travel elsewhere as well. The office location is in Mount Pleasant, SC. This is a full-time, salaried position based on a 35-hour work week. He/she is supervised by the Director of Protection, will supervise contractors and interns, and works with volunteers.

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, natural resources management or related field and 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong organizational skills, thoroughness, and attention to detail, as evidenced through prior experience.
• Experience with producing maps and/or other graphic products and reports and operating GIS software.
• Ability to communicate in a professional, positive and approachable manner (in writing and verbally) with teammates, external partners and landowners, and to handle confidential information.
• Experience coordinating multiple projects and balancing individual responsibility tasks with team support tasks.
• Ability to work independently, and as part of a self-directed team.
