Mechanical Design Drafter
Industrial Smoke and Mirrors (ISM) is a manufacturer of various training simulators including aircraft, weapons, maritime, and ground vehicle simulators, as well as related hardware components. Most of the simulators we build are for our troops, but we do also perform work for the commercial industry. We have an impeccable reputation in the industry and are currently in need of a Mechanical Design Drafter. Many of our jobs are prototypes, so there will be constant changes, challenges, and specific requirements on a project-by-project basis.
To be a successful candidate for this position, individuals will be required to perform all duties and fulfill all responsibilities listed below:
- Responsible for the creation of detail drawings, assembly drawings, and illustrations from Sketch or 3D solid models.
- Responsible for communicating with Engineering Department personnel as needed to create drawings.
- Responsible for making sure all drawing information is accurate and updated according to ISM procedures.
- Responsible for the research and specification of major and critical dimensioning when applicable and correct tolerance of parts and/or assemblies when detailing.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
- Responsible for generation of complete and accurate Bill of Materials and parts list.
- Responsible for checking drawing/design packages of self and others to ensure accuracy, completeness, and overall quality.
- Responsible for incorporating red-lines and Engineering Change Notices.
- Independently develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish assigned tasks.
- Provide development assistance with the upgrade of ISM Engineering standards and procedures.
- Provide training assistance and support to others in the department as needed.
Candidates must possess an excellent understanding of 3D modeling in AutoCAD, Engineering concepts, principles, techniques and have a strong understanding of GD&T principles and proficiency in the principles/application of ASME drafting standards. Candidates must have excellent organizational and time management skills as well as be self-motivated and able to work efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision. Candidates must also have the ability to multi-task and collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineering designers. An ideal candidate would have experience with Department of Defense mechanical drafting, familiarity with Navy, Army, and/or Air Force simulation training.
