Position Overview: Life Skills Facilitator (hereafter represented by initials LSF) is responsible to provide instruction, information, practical skills application while following the guidelines and curriculum as developed/formulated by TLS and approved in conjunction with the LCSO Programs Manager.
Minimum Qualifications: Preferred facilitator will possess a BA or BS in the specialty areas of human services, education (adult), human resources or counseling or have experience from US Military. However, a prospective facilitator may also be considered for this position in the event they have qualifications or certificate of specialty or expertise in one or more areas of topic presented in the Life Skills program. The LSF must pass a background investigation and meet the legal regulations of both TLS and the LCSO. The LSF must be of good character, personal appearance and must be able to meet physical demands of standing/walking for a period of two hours as well as the ability to lift 20 pounds and the ability to bend, squat and pull/push wheeled carts or other equipment designed to transport books, curriculum and the like. The LSF must also be able to operate basic equipment such as television, DVD/VCR players, PowerPoint Presentations, microphone/speakers, computer, fax machine, copy machine and be able to effectively communicate ideas and collaborate with co-workers.
Duties:
The LSF will perform the following duties:
1. Assist in the research and development of materials necessary to supplement the program approved curriculum.
2. Effectively communicate with staff client progress and client needs such as mental health requests and aftercare services as well as be able to demonstrate problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
3. Ensure that the requirements of the program as set forth by contractual agreement between TLS and LCSO are maintained by working as a team with co-workers, supervisor and the Program Manager.
4. LSF must be able to be an ethical role model for the inmate/client and uphold as well as abide by the ethics set forth by this profession and the ethics of the LCSO.
5. Assist clients by using the skills necessary to prepare them for employment, job search and life as a productive, prosocial citizen.
6. The LSF will be on time for each assigned session. In the event of an emergency or illness, the LSF will contact his/her immediate supervisor, the TLS office supervisor and the Programs Manager as soon as possible. Avoid waiting until the last minute and make certain that you have personally contacted at least one of the above listed individuals as arrangements must be made for a substitute to perform this duty.
7. It is the responsibility of the LSF to provide updated information to supervisor and Programs Manager in the event of a change regarding contact information.
